Bootstraps held a reception at the Evergreen Lake House on May 14th to honor the recipients and donors of scholarships for the class of 2013. Over 150 students, parents and contributors attended the reception, which is held each year in May.
Bootstraps, in existence since 1945, awards scholarships and interest-free loans to graduating high school seniors from the Evergreen and Conifer area. The awards are available for almost any type of postsecondary education including vocational training and university study. Awards are based on a combination of academics, community service, and financial need. An additional 41 students will have their scholarships and loans renewed for another year. All of the awards are funded by donations from generous members of our community. Donors sponsoring scholarships and loans specify the criteria to be considered when the board of directors of Bootstraps selects recipients. A unique feature of these programs is that Bootstraps will match donations made to sponsor scholarships by 25% - an $800 donation becomes a $1,000 scholarship or loan in the name of the donor's choosing.
