New sculptures in place

Written by Tricia Rosenthal on .

Sculpture Evergreen gathered Friday evening at Buchanan Rec Center to honor artists whose works were selected to be in the 2017-18 Sculpture Walk.

The "People's Choice" and "Sternburg" awards both went to Joellen Domenico from Lafayette, CO, for her sculpture "The Eagle and the Hawk," which is on view near the Nature Center by Evergreen Lake. Its popularity ensured it a spot in the Sculpture Walk for another year.

Twelve new sculptures were placed on Saturday with one more due to be placed later this month. The sculptures ranged in size from the diminutive "Kit Fox" on display on a pedestal downtown to the four-and-a-half ton granite "Boat of the Universe" installed near Buchanan Rec Center. Three crews from Sculpture Evergreen worked with the artists to provide the crane, welding, and muscle required to ensure that each sculpture is securely in its setting for at least a year.

A new brochure describing the location of permanent and temporary sculptures will be available soon at local retailers and on the Sculpture Evergreen website (sculptureevergreen.org).
