Museum, library cooperate on summer programs

The Evergreen Library’s Summer Reading Clubs started off with a bang on Sunday, with over 350 kids and parents coming to the kick-off for Fizz, Boom, Read. Partnering with the Hiwan Homestead Museum for the kick-off, kids had a blast making Recycle Robots – who knew such wonderful creations could be made out of boxes, bottles, tennis ball cans, lids and pipecleaners?? A backhoe from Open Space was available for climbing on, and the museum was open for tours. Parents and kids enjoyed getting caricature badges made by Jim Loshbaugh, and many kids finished their fun with new tattoos (temporary, of course!).

The Summer Reading Club fun continues with special programs each week at the library for kids and teens, family movies the third Saturday of each month, and incentive prizes for every kid, teen AND adult who completes the summer reading gamecard.

New this year, the Library is partnering with the Hiwan Homestead Museum to present Wacky Wednesdays. Every other Wednesday during June and July, starting June 4th, from 4-5 pm activities for kids 6 and up will be available – with themes connected to Fizz, Boom, Read! June 4th the theme is Balloons – Come Join Us!
