Meet Pat Callahan
Pat Callahan has been involved and visible in the community since becoming an Evergreen resident in 1998 when he and his family relocated here from Raleigh, North Carolina. He's a native of Michigan where he met his wife, Julie, at Michigan State.
Julie's job with IBM has caused her to travel extensively, so Pat has proudly taken the role of Mr. Mom, making it his primary responsibility to raise three children. With kids' activities and recreation going hand in hand, Pat found himself coaching and then taking on part-time paid positions in athletic organizations both in Raleigh and Evergreen. Before Evergreen he served as sports director for the YMCA, running the largest family sports program in North America. Here, he worked as a hockey coach as early as 1999 and then worked as a facility specialist at the Lakehouse part--time and was Deputy Director of EPRD for two years, heading up the Buchanan Park Rec Center and overseeing construction at Stagecoach Park and the remodeling of the Wulf Rec Center, a full-time position.
He's been a trail guide and adult leader for Big City Mountaineers for the past 12 years and currently serves on the Regional Board for that organization. Last year he received the Skip Yowl Award as the Volunteer of the Year nationally. Through Denver Kids Incorporated, he mentors a 14-year-old boy who attends George Washington High School in Denver -- someone he met on a Big City Mountaineer trip.
He's also a volunteer (currently president) with the Evergreen High School Education Foundation, which raises and distributes money for technology, textbooks, and training. And he finds time to serve on the Leadership Evergreen board.
He's always operated "under the radar" until running for office last year to serve on the Evergreen Park and Recreation District Board; he's just completing the first year of a three-year term. Pat recently served on the interview committee for selection of a new Executive Director for the district. He's excited about the newhire in that position and is pleased that the current board is working well together. We at JustAroundHere.com salute Pat for helping to cultivate this atmosphere amongst his colleagues.
