Meet Tom Carby
Tom Carby brings commitment and continuity to a number of nonprofit organizations in Evergreen and the mountain community. No dabbling for this guy! When he gets involved in a project, he immerses himself in it and sticks with it long enough to offer a meaningful and significant contribution.
A great example is the 10 years that Tom has devoted to Drive Smart as member of the board of directors including a term as board president. This organization works to prevent traffic-related fatalities and injuries by encouraging the community to make safe and courteous practices on the roadways a way of life. One of Tom’s specific roles with Drive Smart was taking charge of the annual Skate the Lake event for several years.
Tom is also particularly proud of the 12 years he has spent involved with Conifer Kiwanis and their reading program for third graders. Tom explained that the third grade is a crucial time to insure solid reading skills in children. This program provides reading books for libraries and schools. For several years the group has hosted an annual Reading Party for Parmalee students and provided interesting, enjoyable books as gifts for third grade students. This program has recently been introduced into Evergreen schools, and Tom and some of his fellow club members are exploring taking this program on to the national level.
Tom is currently engaged in his fifth year on the Board of the Evergreen Chamber and has previously served as chairman of this board. He reports that even in this time of financial stress, the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce is currently recognized as one of the stronger chambers in Colorado.
Tom is a bicycle rider and has participated for 10 years with the MS150 fundraiser for multiple sclerosis. He is a member of the Sugar Bees, a group of devoted cyclists who ride this race together every year. Tom consistently earns “High Roller” status in this benefit by raising a significant amount ($2000 or more) for this worthy fund raising event.
Although it may be hard to imagine with all these volunteer commitments, Tom is also the successful owner/agent of Farmers Insurance in Evergreen which offers a wide range of insurance products including home, car, business, and workmen’s compensation. Tom is widely known around town as a true gentleman in the insurance business who will do his very best to only steer you in the right direction for the insurance products that are useful and effective for each client’s specific situation and needs.
It is great to have you in our community, Tom.
