Meet Sally Davidson-Marovich

Sally Davidson-Marovich has had several interesting occupations in her life including working in mortgage banking and owning a catering company which started small but eventually burgeoned into twenty five full- and part-time employees. Although she enjoyed each of her earlier professional careers, her real passion is art and that is where she now focuses her attention here in Evergreen.

As an artist, Sally is well-known locally and appreciated for her many years in teaching art classes at the Center for The Arts, Evergreen. She has been teaching at the Art Center since it opened and her signature class, called the “Try It All” course, allows new art students to explore mixed media, drawing, pastels, and acrylics to get an introduction to different mediums.

Sally was one of several people instrumental in helping to staff the Children’s Summer Art Camps at the center when they were first developed and has continued to provide varied offerings almost every year. For example, Sally knows it is important to generate classes for the camp that will maintain the interest of the kids, so she has offered a course for t’weens on Room Makeovers. She used this theme to teach children between the ages of 10-12 years old how to pay attention to color, texture and design.

Sally started out in college as an art major but then decided she needed to have a more practical degree to make sure she could make a living, so she switched to getting a teaching degree with an emphasis in English. But her love of art was ever-present in her heart and she began attended numerous art classes with the hope of enhancing her skills. Eventually someone asked her why she wasn’t showing her art work and reminded her that nobody was going to buy her art work if they never saw it. This inspired Sally to shore up her courage and put her art work out to the public. She presented her art at 20 different shows the first year! While Sally quickly determined that was a daunting amount of work in one year, she has continued to be a steady contributor to the various art shows in Evergreen and around this area, garnering several regional awards.

Last year Sally was Co-president of the Pastel Society of Colorado and this year she is serving as President. Pastels are her favorite media and she says she likes them because they are “so forgiving”; you can make mistakes, they don’t have to be perfect and they still look good. She loves the softness of the colors and how easily pastels flow across the canvas. She is currently getting the organization ready for its annual Pastel Show in August.

In addition to her love of art, Sally has another passion in her life which is supporting the Children’s Diabetes Guild, which raises money for the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. For this worthy cause, Sally has helped spearhead three fund-raisers in Evergreen called Jewels for Hope which have always been enthusiastically attended by Evergreen residents and financial successes. She’s hoping to do another fund-raiser in 2012.

Sally is married to Ron Marovich, owner of United Services, which does asphalt paving, sealing, and coating. The Maroviches have been married since 1984 and have two grown sons who were raised in Evergreen.
