Meet David and Jane Christie
David and Jane Christie are each passionate, involved individuals who put a lot of commitment and effort into their separate endeavors. When you put the two of them together they make a powerful team.
Jane and David work together at Christies of Genesee where they pride themselves on hosting beautiful, stress-free and affordable weddings ceremonies and receptions and other events for community organizations. Jane usually takes care of the bridal consultations at Christies, and David takes care of many of the other details. Since 1999, Christies has been a favorite place for many Evergreen locals to celebrate a variety of special events. Jane and David provide a seamless, well-organized experience that generates warm, enjoyable memories for all their clients.
There is an interesting story to how the Christies ended up in the catering and event planning business. David came to Colorado after leaving the army in 1972. His grandparents had a ranch west of Steamboat Springs, and he wanted to spend time in Colorado even though he'd grown up in New Jersey. David obtained an associates degree in surveying as one of the first students of Red Rocks Community College and also worked full time with the Denver Parks Department as a surveyor, draftsman, landscaper and carpenter. While David was doing a boundary survey of Chief Hosa Lodge (owned by the City and County of Denver), he decided to obtain a lease on the building because he wanted to be in business for himself. He became the concessionaire in 1988 and had the lease for 12 years. Eventually, Jane and he met and married. They worked together to continue beautifully restoring the lodge and ran an event center there catering to weddings and parties before moving on to their current location in the Genesee Town Center.
Although they are very involved in the management of their popular event center, David and Jane each carve out time to devote to their individual interests. Jane is an extremely talented pastel artist whose recognition has burgeoned in the last five years. Her artwork is on display at Saks, one of the premier art galleries in Cherry Creek. She also belongs to Artists with Altitude, a group of 11 women whose mission is supporting women in the arts, as well as Alliance Artists of Evergreen which hosts art openings every couple of months at different venues in the region. She also participates in the annual Open Door Studios, which invites the public into the studios of about 25 local artists each fall. Jane has served on the Board of Directors of Evergreen Artists Association and is currently on the Board of the Center for the Arts.
David is a serious athlete who does just about everything very well but is particularly enamored with bicycling. David often goes on exciting trips around the country and the world to pursue his outdoor activities. In that regard, he became involved with a bicycle advocacy group called Bike/Jeffco which works on making cycling safer. He was primarily focused on the El Rancho/Genesee bike trail which is on track for construction in the near future, taking bikers off a two-mile stretch of Interstate-70. David also participates as a Safety for Seniors handyman program with the Volunteers of America.
