Meet Ben Jackson
Ben Jackson has made a significant, indelible impact on the Evergreen Mountain community since he came here in 2005 to become the head of the Evergreen Country Day School (ECDS).
Previously the school was known as Rocky Mountain Academy and was housed in the Bergen shopping center area. The name was changed to Evergreen Country Day School as part of the reorganization that occurred when the school was moved in to their beautiful, extremely well-designed new building located on Swede Gulch Road near the Home Depot.
Ben, a native of Rhode Island, had previously served as the Assistant Head of the Penfield School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and also as the Head of the Middle School of that same community.
The possibility of living and working in beautiful Colorado inspired Ben and his wife, Amity, to pick up stakes and move their family to Evergreen. It has been a jam-packed and extremely successful seven years. After being here for a couple of years, they had a third child.
Ben immersed himself deeply in the mission of ECDS which he describes as offering an alternative school choice for our mountain residents that provides a robust, academically challenging curriculum while still generously exposing children to the arts and to active use of modern technology and to lots of individual attention to the specific needs and learning style of each student.
The enrollment at ECDS has almost doubled during Ben’s tenure. The school offers services from early childhood through the eighth grade and there are long term plans to eventually extend the program through high school. Ben is extremely proud of ECDS and is so appreciative to have the opportunity to work with a wonderful staff, highly involved parents, and a devoted Board of Trustees.
