Since its founding in 1948, Evergreen’s volunteer fire department has evolved from an organization of men dedicated to extinguishing fires to a cadre of men and women who respond to emergencies ranging from structure fires to drownings and crashes to wildfires. Evergreen Fire Rescue offers non-emergency services to its community as well, including CPR courses, space for community meetings, participation in community events and station tours.

Starfish One by One

The developing world’s single most untapped resource is its adolescent girls. Starfish empowers girls in Guatemala through education and mentorship to become leaders in their communities. Like many developing countries, Guatemala does not benefit from the talents and skills of its female population. This exclusion is particularly acute with Mayan girls- only 5% finish elementary school. Yet global data reflects how educated girls can transform their families, communities and countries. Starfish combines academic scholarships with the long-term support of a community-based female mentor to ensure that each girl completes middle and high school and is fully empowered along the way.

Provides shelter, advocacy and education for women and children who have experienced domestic violence in the home. Services include emergency shelter, food and clothing, legal advocacy, on-site health clinic, individual and group counseling, children's program, housing referrals and advocacy, 24-hour crisis and information line, restraining order assistance, free legal clinics, and support programs.
