Ethel Merman

(1908 - 1984)

 

Actress and singer known for leading roles in musical theatre and called "the undisputed First Lady of the musical comedy stage."

Her ties to Colorado began with her (third) marriage (1953-1960) to Robert Six, CEO of Continental Airlines from 1936 to 1981.

During her relationship with Ernest Borgnine, the two rented a home on Troutdale Scenic Drive in Evergreen for one summer.  The two married in 1964, but Merman filed for divorce a month later (her fourth marriage).

Merman was known most for her role as Gypsy Rose Lee in the Broadway play "Gypsy" and for "Annie Get Your Gun."
