Meet Barb Scripps
Barbara Scripps has managed her own very successful Evergreen accounting firm (Barb is the president and co-owner, along with partner Cathy Taylor, of Scripps Taylor Accounting Firm) since 1992, helped numerous local businesses, raised three unique and delightful children and still has boundless energy and commitment to participate in a wide variety of organizations in the mountain community.
Barbara has been a dedicated, active Evergreen Rotarian and has previously served as membership chair among other roles. This year she is the program chairperson for the organization. She has served on the Mt Evans Hospice Board for over 12 years and has previously served as treasurer of that board. She has also held the position of treasurer of the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and served as a consultant to the board of the Evergreen Players and Evergreen Chorale. Barb has also been president of the Board of Directors of Evergreen Country Day School.
Barb is a multifaceted individual and her interests and abilities go far beyond her laudatory accounting skills and financial expertise. How often do you run across a top notch accounting wizard who is equally interested in singing, music, acting and the visual arts? Barb has a beautiful singing voice and has been involved with the Evergreen Chorale for many years. (It was at her first Chorale rehearsal that she met Tom Scripps; they married in 1989.) Throughout the years she has performed with the Chorale, Evergreen Players, and Fairy Tale Theater. She has been joined on stage by Tom and some or all of her three children. Each of her children, Jason, Will and Ellie have performed with the Evergreen Children’s Chorale, at EHS and with other groups.
But Barb’s involvement in the arts doesn’t end with the performing arts. Barb has also been a stalwart board member and supporter of the Center for the Arts Evergreen for many years. She held several terms as president and several terms as treasurer of the Board of Directors of Center for the Arts in the past. She recently rejoined the CAE Board and is always willing to “get down in the trenches” and volunteer her time in activities as varied as chauffeuring vendors and artists for fund raising festivals, hauling supplies to Winterfest, cooking up gourmet dinners, or acting as mistress of ceremonies at the Summerfest music test. Barb is a real trooper!
No matter what Barbara gets involved in, her organizational talents, financial savvy and leadership skills are quickly recognized by all those around her and she frequently is asked to take on high levels of responsibility. She is widely admired as a straight shooter and one who creates momentum and develops a forward trajectory to get things done. She is also equally successful at being a part of a larger team and taking direction from others in leadership roles. On top of all this, she has a great sense of humor and it is fun to be on a nonprofit committee with her.
She was named Evergreen Chamber of Commerce Volunteer in 2007. In 2009, she was chosen as a Rex Morgan SCFD Volunteer Award Nominee (a very prestigious honor in Colorado). In 2010 she was named the Center for the Arts Evergreen Person of the Year. Barb is the consummate Evergreen community citizen!
